Detour

This fall, JUDITH friend and muse, Elina Chizmar, gave us a glimpse into her world - a sprawling, mid-century restoration surrounded by trees, and the current backdrop for work and life. Elina is Latvian-born, an awarded architect, former New Yorker, and small business owner. Her portfolio, perhaps most notably, includes the design of Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC.) She’s brilliant and direct, sensitive and tough. And she’s a mother. She has layers.

Like many city dwellers at the intersection of parenthood and a worldwide pandemic, Elina and her young family made the move from Brooklyn to the suburbs a few years back. While her surroundings have changed, her career continues to flourish. Never without a project, she and her architect husband embraced the change and launched Detour Furniture, restoring and dealing mid-century treasures from around the world.

Elina graciously let us photograph her in her beautiful space, styled in JUDITH, for an afternoon of inspiration and musing.
